MMO vs. MMORPG
The term MMO stands for “massive multi-player online.” MMOs are games that are played over the Internet by a large number of gamers at the same time, and usually require downloading the basic game to your computer. The gamers have to be able to communicate and interact with each other, otherwise the game isn’t considered an MMO. MMOs are sometimes also referred to as MMOGs, which stands for “massive multi-player online game.”
MMORPG, on the other hand, stands for “massive multi-player online role-playing game.” A role-playing game is one in which the gamer can control the actions of a fictional character, usually in a vast fantasy world. An MMORPG, therefore, is a role-playing game in which a large number of gamers control fictional characters in the same fantasy world, and can make their characters interact and communicate with each other.
